Positive Dog Trainers Academy (PDTA) offers the opportunity to obtain certification in the science of dog training, whether you have prior experience in dog training or want to follow a new career path. Our certified instructors can teach you the science of force free training by using the positive reinforcement method, the only method supported by a vast body of research over the last 10 years that is acknowledged as humane in all circumstances. Our instructors are totally committed to companion dog training and to enriching relationships between people and their canine friends.

At Positive Dog Trainers Academy, you will have the opportunity to attend quality theoretical as well as  classroom courses  that will provide you with the knowledge to ensure your success as a professional dog trainer. You will also receive hands-on training opportunities with a wide range of dogs with different personalities and temperaments that will offer you the experience you need to be a competent and successful professional dog trainer.

Understanding that not all dogs are alike, we teach multiple methods so as to equip you to handle a variety of training issues.  You will also have the opportunity to work with rescue dogs, giving you real-world experience with dogs of varying temperaments.  We also teach you how to instruct and work with people, not just dogs, so you will be more confident when working with future clients. Our well-rounded approach, thoroughly prepares you for a future career in professional dog training. In order to graduate, students are required   to pass all course requirements and demonstrate their ability to train.

PDTA was founded by Wendy Coersen and Maria-Christina Patala

Wendy Coersen is from Holland and is a fully-qualified member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and IMDTB UK, professional and qualified Dog Trainer and  Behaviourist. As an IMDT and IMDTB professional, she adheres strictly to the IMDT’s Code of Ethics. 

Wendy is also a professional dog trick trainer and assessor at FFTT and participates in Hollands dog dance championship in which she took first place in her category in 2016.


Maria-Christina Patala is a fully-qualified member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), UK.  As an IMDT professional, she adheres strictly to the IMDT’s Code of Ethics.

She is also a proud member of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), an association of animal professionals dedicated to force-free training practices. She undertakes continuous professional development and she is committed to constantly improving her knowledge and practice of positive reinforcement dog training through regular attendance of courses and seminars. She has successfully passed the assessment and became Pet Dog Ambassador Instructor. The PDA program is a newly launched international licensing initiative focused on improving and strengthening dogs’ and their guardians’ skills, both in a class situation and in the real world
